Our Story

The idea to launch Marigold Tiger was inspired by a holiday to India, set in motion by a desire to re-engage with the creative world and guided by the simple belief that beauty can bring happiness.

Creating Marigold Tiger has allowed me to return to a cherished former life working in fashion magazines initially in London, then in the US and Canada where, after a 'Devil Wears Prada' coffee-fetching start, I went on to write, edit and style stories in beautiful locations around the world.  I'm having the best time revisiting those creative skills in bringing the ethos of Marigold Tiger alive through rich, happy images.

Today, my writing has turned away from fashion and towards lifestyle and fiction, but I still believe in the value and pleasure of presenting a relaxed yet polished look, even if it's just me at home at the computer. Marigold Tiger aims to help you do just that, with beautiful, handmade pieces that 'give back', while giving you easy choices that we hope enhance life’s happy times.

Designing this collection, or more accurately said, expressing my take on traditional silhouettes like caftans, tunics and even PJs - has involved a lot of revising - because that's what getting to 'effortless' requires. After I tried and tested (and of course, listened to friends!), I added more embroidery to the bodices of the silk tunics and caftans for ease of wearing aka no bra required; added pockets - well, everywhere, for practicality; gave a more boyfriend fit to PJs, and deepened the necklines on everything for a little hint of, yes, sexiness - all to achieve my version of the best cocktail of ease, beauty and polish.

Easy, luxe pieces give an effortlessly polished look: A concept we hope makes your  day a little happier.

There are so many choices when shopping today, so with Marigold Tiger we wanted to offer what we believe is a 'feel-good' purchase: Our products are made in India, in a village that strives to coexist harmoniously with the tigers; We're doing our small part to help support time-honoured techniques (which sadly are disappearing) like block printing, dyeing, and embroidery that make each piece a unique (and even imperfect ) work of art; We foster women artisans, and donate tuition and books to the community's school, particularly to girls who are less likely to be given an opportunity for education.

And why Marigold? These bright happy blooms are considered auspicious and used in Indian ceremonies both grand and everyday, making it the perfect flower to inspire us all to celebrate life’s moments big and small.
